Brook Zais grew up in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, spending most of his years in Kelowna where he studied fine art at Okanagan College. In 1980, he started his illustration career at Odin Creative Dimensions in Calgary, Alberta. Since returning to Kelowna in 1984, he has specialized in architectural rendering, working in computer generated rendering as well as tempera (gouache), watercolour, pen and pencil.
